Description

The Tamiya Volkswagen Beetle MF-01X 1/10 4WD Electric Rally Car Kit recreates the classic Volkswagen Beetle in rally racing form. Thanks to its superlative reliability and uncomplicated upkeep, it was a fixture on the global rally circuit from the 1950s through to the 1980s, and this model is inspired by such rallying Beetles. The VW body sits atop Tamiya’s proven shaft-driven 4WD MF-01X chassis, which is at home on a range of surfaces from road to flat dirt.

Scott Phillips Verified Owner Sunday, Apr 17 2022 (about 3 years ago) Tamiya Volkswagen Beetle 1/10 4WD Electric Rally Car (MF-01X) I’ve built many tamiya rc kits over the last 30 years. More than a dozen for sure. I’ve always appreciated the precision molding and parts fit. Just like their static models, excellent production. The rc kits are unusual compared to other manufacturers designs. The volkswagen is a good example of the modular approach tamiya is known for.
My opinion, a great starting point for rc. Inexpensive, easy to build, and left stock, most are quite tame to drive. The M chassis kits are all pretty straightforward too, no adjustments on the suspension, just assemble and drive.
I went extreme this time.. this bug got a 2200 kv brushless outrunner,a sidewinder speed control and 3s lipo. I’m sure it’s not what tamiya intended. Crazy fast and to much fun, I’m surprised with the drive train handling it so far. Definitely not a setup for beginners though.

When he first started it seemed a little overwhelming to him so we put it aside for a while. After he watched and helped me while i was rebuilding a 1/5 scale basher he got the “bug” to start his project again. Now that my son and I just finished this RC build he would say that the building process turned out easier then he thought it was and now he wants to build more kits. 1 customer found this review helpful.
